YOUTH GROUP

The youth group at Burbank First is open to everyone, with lessons on Sunday mornings and a monthly Game Night! By creating a family dynamic, we focus on the love of Jesus Christ. We accept all of God's children! Join us for some fun and fellowship!

We are an active group that come together to discuss school, life, God, and much more. Alongside our weekly meetings, we also do an ample amount of mission work. From our yearly trips with the Sierra Service Project, to We Care bags, to our Pancake Dinner, we are always looking for ways to serve.

Sunday Mornings

THIS WEEK: Happy Easter! We’ll learn about how Jesus’ resurrection broke new ground for hope to enter our lives. We’ll share our own stories of hope with each other, and reflect on how we can help spread hope in our world this Easter. Bring a friend, and we’ll bring the sweet treats!

save the date: youth SUNDAY AND YOUTH party!

Youth Sunday: The Youth Group will take over the Sunday Morning Worship service on April 19 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM! There are many roles your student can serve in. Start thinking about what roles your student would like to commit to, as we begin preparing them to lead. Basic worship roles include but are not limited to: Ushers, Welcome Message, Prayers, Songs, Scripture Readings, Offertory, and Announcements. Laura will preach the sermon. This will be a fun and impactful Sunday!

NOTE: We will NOT gather in the Youth Room on April 19 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM like usual!

Youth Party: Following the Youth Sunday service, we will have a Youth Party in the Youth Room from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM! More surprise details will be revealed soon in the newsletter and website!

confirmation

  • All Parents/Guardians are invited to our Confirmation Interest Meeting on April 12 from 10:45 to 11:45 AM in the Youth Room.
  • Join us as we work on re-building our Confirmation program! At this meeting, Pastor Alex and Laura will discuss the goals for Confirmation, the proposed schedule, curriculum, and how your family can get involved in this intentional milestone for your teenager’s faith formation. Your feedback on our proposal is essential for us as we build back the Confirmation program.
  • Below is an overview of the purpose of Confirmation, and some answers to frequent questions!

frequently asked questions

  • What is the purpose of Confirmation?
  • Confirmation is an important opportunity for students to grow in their faith by exploring what it means to be a member of a United Methodist Church, but most of all what it means to be a disciple of Christ. This will give students the chance to make their own informed decision on confirming their faith.
  • Does it HAVE to be offered to one specific age group?
  • Nope! It’s up to each church what age group they want to open Confirmation to. Burbank First UMC will offer Confirmation to all 6th-12th graders.
  • Do you have to pass a final exam before getting confirmed?
  • Not at all! This is a process that requires commitment, but no exams. This process teaches students what it means to be a disciple of Christ, and what it means to be a member of the United Methodist Church.
  • Do you have to be a member of the UMC in order to choose to follow Jesus?
  • Nope! Those are two distinct things. You can make your choice to follow Jesus and decline membership of a church. The confirmation process traditionally involves both confirming your decision to follow Jesus and becoming a member of your local United Methodist Church. This process gives you the chance to make a formal decision about your faith.
